We hear so much about the dangers of sun exposure, that using sunscreen is ingrained in our culture. But what is now coming to light, is the danger of chemical sunscreens. They contain cancer-causing ingredients, and prevent the manufacture of Vitamin D, the deficiency of which is at the root of yes….Cancer, Alzheimers, Depression, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, High Blood Pressure, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and many more diseases. So I have been researching and experimenting with non-toxic alternatives to chemical sunscreen.
Sun Damage Repair with Homeopathy & Antioxidants
My family takes 100 mg of Pycnogenol daily for at least a week prior to exposure, and daily during exposure. Studies show that this highly powerful antioxidant, made from pine bark, helps the skin repair sun damage. We also take a daily dose of the homeopathic remedy Sol 12c, which also helps mitigate the effects of the sun.
To put this in context, I do not go to the beach until around 6 pm. But I am walking around in the sun on and off during the day. Last year I got the best tan ever, with no burning, and from really very little actual sunbathing. And of course, I got mega amounts of Vitamin D.
Zinc Oxide Sunscreens
For situations where I can’t avoid exposure in the middle of the day, I use a Zinc Oxide sunscreen. It’s the only sunscreen ingredient, which doesn’t penetrate the skin, though it can leave a white veil on the skin. Some use Clear Zinc, a nano version, but it is not clear how safe it is, in terms of whether it penetrates the skin. This year I am trying the Badger brand.
If you want to try this approach, please do so responsibly. It is OK for the skin to go slightly pink, which indicates you are getting the Vitamin D. But anything beyond that is not healthy.
